Our Work
We first identify a community that has a particular need—they have endured a hard freeze, their water supply is compromised, or they have lost homes and buildings due to heavy rains and flooding. We then purchase the supplies from local vendors in the city, which helps to stimulate and sustain the local economy. We then distribute these supplies to the remote community.
Some of our campaigns have included providing children and families new shoes, blankets, clothes, vitamins, and food items; distributing solar lights to children that have limited energy sources to do homework at night; and teaching chasquis (porters) Leave No Trace principles. Along our treks, we've also stopped to wash faces and hands and leave behind soaps and wash clothes with instructions for proper hand washing. And we've distributed vitamins and instructions on how to use to parents and children, along with some basic education on nutrition.
In recent years, we've distributed first aid supplies and introduced basic first aid education to small villages in the Lares and Sacred Valleys. Many times it takes 2-3 hours or more by foot to reach a medical clinic that may or may not be well supported. Often, these people lack access to education on basic first aid skills that could very well help them survive or prevent further injury. Our introduction of first aid to these communities was successful, so we'll continue to focus and put emphasis on this project going forward.
We have helped nearly 2,000 people in various villages since 2011 with only a few thousand dollars and the help of a couple dozen volunteers. We sincerely appreciate all the support we have received along the way! And we invite you to help us do more. You may donate here!
